There’s something magical about combining love and nature—and Bailey and Cayden’s engagement session was the perfect example of that. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Saunders-Monticello Trail in Charlottesville, VA is one of our favorite places for an engagement session, especially when a couple loves the outdoors.
Getting to Know Bailey and Cayden
We always encourage our couples to book an engagement session, not just for the photos (though we love those, too!), but for the chance to hang out and really get to know each other before the wedding day. That connection makes all the difference. With Bailey and Cayden, it felt effortless.
Right away, we found ourselves deep in conversation as we explored the trail. We talked about podcasts—Amanda and Bailey mutually love the Morbid podcast—and bonded over a mutual obsession with antique shopping. It’s always a bonus when our couples feel like old friends.

Exploring the Trail Together
The Saunders-Monticello Trail offers such a gorgeous mix of scenery, from the blossom-lined paths to the deep forest views. We meandered along the trail, stopping at favorite spots along the way to capture their connection.
They were so natural together—laughing, holding hands, and sharing little looks that said everything without words. One of our favorite things about this session was how it felt like a true reflection of who they are as a couple. No stiff poses, no pressure—just genuine moments of chatting and laughter as we hiked and talked.

Including Sadie, Their Sweet Lab
Of course, no session is complete without including all members of the family—and that meant their beloved and beautiful lab, Sadie, had her moment in the spotlight too! She was an absolute sweetheart and such a good sport, even with all the excitement. We took a few photos with her early in the session before letting her rest while we continued exploring. Shoutout to Cayden's sister for taking care of Sadie while we kept hiking up the trail!
We always love when couples bring their pups along—it makes the shoot so much more personal, and it adds another layer of warmth and meaning to the gallery.

The Beauty of an Outdoor Engagement Session
Sessions like these remind us why we adore photographing in and around Charlottesville. With the beauty of the Saunders-Monticello Trail, the peacefulness of the woods, and the dappled light through the trees, nature always sets the perfect stage. Whether you're hiking, pausing for a kiss under the canopy, or showing off your ring nestled in a bed of moss, there's a quiet romance in the outdoors that you just can’t recreate anywhere else.

Counting Down to the Wedding Day
Bailey and Cayden will be tying the knot this November, and after spending time with them, we know their day is going to be something truly special. They’re the kind of couple who radiate calm, joy, and total trust in each other. Their wedding will no doubt be a beautiful celebration of all the things that make them such a perfect match.
We feel so lucky to be the ones capturing this chapter in their story. From hiking trails to wedding aisles, we’ll be there cheering them on and documenting it all.
