A Lively and Historic Engagement Session in Staunton, Virginia: Betina & Cody

There’s something undeniably charming about downtown Staunton, Virginia. With its cobblestone streets, historic brick facades, and urban yet timeless appeal, it’s a dream location for an engagement session. When we met up with Betina and Cody for their shoot, we knew right away that we were in for a fun and laughter-filled evening.

A Love Story 10 Years in the Making

Betina and Cody have been together for ten years—a decade of love, adventures, and countless memories. Their connection was evident in the way they interacted throughout the session, constantly keeping each other laughing and never missing a chance to be playful. This spring, they’ll be saying “I do” at the beautiful Spring Hill Barn in Staunton, Virginia, and if their engagement session was any indication, their wedding is going to be filled with joy and energy.

Strolling Through Downtown Staunton

We kicked off the session in downtown Staunton, letting the couple explore and interact naturally. The historic charm of the area provided the perfect backdrop—brick walkways, quaint storefronts, and a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere that made for effortlessly romantic photos. The urban feel of Staunton set the tone for a relaxed and casual engagement session that felt authentic to Betina and Cody’s personalities.

As they walked hand-in-hand, we captured those quiet moments of tenderness, but also the bursts of laughter that seemed to follow them wherever they went. Whether they were whispering inside jokes, playfully nudging each other, or simply soaking in the moment, their connection shone through in every frame.

Movement, Dips, and Spontaneous Twirls

We always encourage movement in our engagement sessions—it helps couples feel natural, relaxed, and allows their personalities to shine. With Betina and Cody, we leaned into that philosophy even more. We had them twirling, dipping, and spinning, which led to some truly dynamic and joyful images. One of our favorite moments was when Cody twirled Betina under the soft glow of string lights near Ox-Eye Vineyards’ large historic archway—an iconic spot in Staunton that adds the perfect rustic touch to any session.

The dramatic dips were another highlight—Cody fully embraced the challenge, and Betina’s radiant laughter made for some of the most romantic shots of the evening. It was a reminder that engagement sessions aren’t just about posing; they’re about celebrating love in a way that feels natural and fun.

A Ring as Stunning as Their Love

Of course, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to get some close-up shots of Betina’s stunning engagement ring. The pear-shaped halo setting sparkled beautifully against the rustic textures of downtown Staunton. We love incorporating small details like this into engagement sessions because they tell an even deeper part of the couple’s story.

Ending the Evening on a Perfect Note

After an hour of laughter, romance, and movement-filled photos, Betina and Cody wrapped up their engagement session with a much-deserved bite to eat and a couple of beers at a local spot. It was the perfect way to end a session that truly reflected their relationship—laid-back, full of joy, and deeply connected.

Looking Forward to the Big Day

We can’t wait to photograph Betina and Cody’s wedding at Spring Hill Barn this spring. If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding day will be one for the books—filled with laughter, love, and the same undeniable chemistry that made this session so special.

Betina and Cody, thank you for allowing us to capture this beautiful chapter of your love story. We’re counting down the days until we get to celebrate with you again!
