Bailey and Cayden’s Cozy Fall Wedding at Hollyfield Manor
Some weddings feel like they were made for autumn, and Bailey and Cayden’s November celebration at Hollyfield Manor was exactly that. The golden leaves, the crisp Richmond air, and the warm, earthy color palette all came together to create the perfect Central Virginia fall wedding. As Charlottesville based wedding photographers, we love photographing couples in every season, but there is something especially charming about a Richmond wedding in early November. This day had everything we adore. A heartfelt first look, sweet family moments, the family dog in the wedding, an ice cream dessert bar, and even a firetruck send off to end the night. It was joyful, thoughtful, and beautifully honest from beginning to end.
Getting Ready at Hollyfield Manor
When we arrived that afternoon, the manor was quietly preparing for the day ahead. The bridal suite buzzed with activity as bridesmaids in their burnt orange dresses helped Bailey with final touches while Makeup by Holly Beauty Partners worked their magic. Bailey’s calmness stood out to us. She moved through the day with the kind of steady joy that comes from knowing the day is unfolding exactly as it should.
Next door, the groom’s suite had its own energy. The guys started their morning fishing at the pond behind the house, then moved inside to play some pool before getting dressed. Cayden and his groomsmen looked incredible in their green suits. The color was rich, bold, and absolutely perfect for a fall wedding. There was laughter rolling through the halls, ties being adjusted, and one final check of the boutonnières before Cayden stepped outside for the moment he had been waiting for.
Of course, one of the most important members of the wedding party was ready too. Their sweet dog Sadie, wearing her little flower collar, made her rounds like she knew she had a job to do. Photographing dogs in weddings is always a highlight for us, and Sadie absolutely stole the show.
Their First Look
Before guests arrived, Bailey and Cayden chose to see each other for a first look. These moments are always some of our favorites. There is something incredibly intimate about a couple choosing to pause the excitement of the day to simply be with one another.
Cayden’s face as he turned around and saw Bailey for the first time said everything. The nerves eased. The smiles softened. And suddenly they were just two people standing together, taking in the moment before the whirlwind of the day continued. This choice allowed us to take most of their portraits and family photos before the ceremony, which made the rest of the day feel relaxed and unrushed. Their families appreciated it too. Everyone got to enjoy the ceremony and cocktail hour without thinking about timelines or photo lists.
Sadie, of course, joined in for portraits, sitting proudly like the perfect little model. We knew then that their future puppy Miller would fit right into this growing family. Hearing that they welcomed a new fluff-ball right after their honeymoon made us smile. It felt like the perfect next chapter for them.
The Ceremony
The ceremony site at Hollyfield Manor looked beautiful that afternoon. The November colors had settled into deep ambers and golds. Guests gathered as a soft breeze moved through the trees and the sun sparkled on the pond. Florals by Vogue Flowers lined the aisle with warm hues that pulled the entire palette together.
When Bailey walked down the aisle, the glow in her expression matched the sunlight behind her. The moment was tender and full of emotion. With their bridal party standing on either side and the vibrant fall colors surrounding them, the ceremony felt classic, timeless, and full of heart. Their vows were sweet and steady, the kind that come from a couple who truly know one another.
Portraits and Cocktail Hour
After the ceremony, the rest of the day flowed effortlessly. Since we completed most of the portraits earlier, Bailey and Cayden were able to walk into cocktail hour without rushing. They hugged family, laughed with friends, and soaked up everything around them. We moved through the space capturing candids, details, and the kind of fleeting moments that make a wedding day feel alive.
Hollyfield Manor always photographs beautifully, but the combination of fall colors and the warm light that evening made it even more special. It was the kind of glow that feels too perfect to plan. We had a few minutes with the couple for some additional portraits, but this time it felt more like a quiet stroll than a scheduled session. They were relaxed, happy, and completely in the moment.
A Reception Filled With Heart and Fun
From the second DJ’s for Lovers, led by Michael Murphy, opened the dance floor, we knew it was going to be a lively night. Bailey and Cayden’s guests did not hesitate. The dance floor stayed full, the energy never dipped, and the two of them floated from group to group with the biggest smiles on their faces.
One of the most unique touches of the evening was the live portrait artist. Laura Vahlberg Portraits painted quick sketches of guests throughout the night. Everyone was fascinated, gathering around to watch as she worked. It added such a personal, heartfelt element to the reception. Guests walked away with original artwork and a lasting memory of the celebration.
Their dessert choice made the evening even sweeter. Instead of a traditional cake, they offered an ice cream bar by Gelati Celesti. It was playful, nostalgic, and perfect for a couple who loves meaningful, fun touches. People lined up for scoops between dances or added sprinkles and toppings before heading back to the dance floor.
One of our favorite moments was the t shirt toss. Instead of tossing a bouquet or garter, Bailey and Cayden threw custom shirts into the crowd. It was lighthearted, creative, and so true to their personalities. The room erupted with laughter as guests reached up, cheering and grabbing for a chance to snag one.
The Sparkler Exit and Firetruck Finale
As the night came to an end, guests lined up outside with sparklers lighting the path. The glow illuminated the November night and gave Bailey and Cayden one final moment surrounded by all the people who love them. They made their way through the sparklers with so much excitement and joy, stopping once they reached the end. But the night had one more surprise waiting.
A firetruck pulled up in front of the reception hall. Since Cayden is a professional firefighter, this moment felt so meaningful and personal. Instead of slipping into a getaway car, the two of them climbed onto the back of the firetruck, waving as their guests cheered and sparkles flickered behind them. It was cinematic and bold, the perfect way to end a fall wedding packed with personality and heart.
