A Heartfelt Greenhouse Microwedding at Avonlea Farms
There are some wedding days that feel like they glow from the inside out. Audrey and Jack’s fall wedding at Avonlea Farms in Mineral, Virginia was one of those days. As Charlottesville wedding photographers, we spend so much of our year celebrating love across Central Virginia. Still, every now and then we walk into a wedding that feels like pure joy from the first quiet moments of getting ready to the final bubble send off. Audrey and Jack’s Richmond area wedding was intimate, intentional, and overflowing with sweet emotion. It will stay with us for a long time.
Their celebration was a true microwedding, perfectly sized at about forty guests. They chose to invite only their closest family and friends, which created an atmosphere that felt warm and familiar. Every conversation mattered, every hug lasted a little longer, and every detail felt close to home. To make the day even more personal, they asked their guests to wear green. We loved this touch from the moment they mentioned it during their consultation. Green may be an unusual wedding palette choice, but it was absolutely brilliant. Against the autumn color at Avonlea Farms, their guests created a beautiful visual harmony that tied the entire day together.
Getting Ready in the Cabin
The morning of the wedding was peaceful in a way that only fall mornings in Central Virginia can be. The leaves around the property had settled into those rich seasonal tones we love photographing this time of year, and the air felt just crisp enough that everyone welcomed the warmth of the cabin.
Audrey and Jack chose to get dressed separately, which created space for each of them to soak in the quiet significance of the day. When we arrived, Audrey was surrounded by soft laughter and a few happy tears, moving gracefully between final touch ups and writing a last line in her vows. Jack was just next door, straightening his tie and shaking out a few nerves with his family.
These slow, gentle beginnings often become some of our favorite moments. They give us time to capture the anticipation, the softness, the hands clasping around bouquet ribbons or cufflinks, and the deep breaths before the ceremony.
A Sweet, Joyful Ceremony in the Greenhouse
Avonlea Farms is known for many beautiful spaces, but their greenhouse is one of our favorites for ceremonies. It holds light in the most delicate way, and on this November afternoon, it felt like stepping into a pocket of warmth and stillness.
As guests dressed in shades of green made their way to their seats, the entire room came alive. The palette of emerald, sage, and moss toned outfits blended seamlessly with the greenery inside the greenhouse. It felt organic and intentional at the same time.
Audrey walked down the aisle with a smile that radiated pure joy. Jack’s reaction said everything. Their ceremony was tender and personal, shaped by thoughtful words and soft laughter. When they sealed their vows with a kiss, Jack literally jumped for joy as they walked down the aisle together. It was one of those vibrant, unscripted moments that reminds us exactly why we love documenting weddings in Charlottesville, Richmond, and beyond.
An Intimate Luncheon Reception
Following the ceremony, Audrey and Jack chose something refreshingly different. Instead of a traditional evening reception, they hosted a luncheon complete with hors d’oeuvres and signature cocktails. The entire structure of the day felt relaxed and perfectly suited to a microwedding. Guests mingled effortlessly, gathered around small tables, and enjoyed the chance to talk with everyone present.
The food was beautifully prepared and served in a style that encouraged conversation. We floated around the room capturing candid moments, clinking glasses, and the kind of deep belly laughs that happen when the people you love most are all in one place.
Their signature cocktails became instant favorites. We always love photographing custom drink details because they show so much personality, and these were no exception. Audrey and Jack leaned into flavors they enjoy and created drinks that felt celebratory without being fussy.
Of course, no celebration is complete without a first dance. Audrey and Jack shared their dance surrounded by the same friends and family who had already witnessed so much love earlier in the day. Afterward, Audrey shared a father daughter dance while Jack shared a mother son dance. These dances felt especially heartfelt within the intimate setting of their daytime reception. With fewer guests, every emotion felt amplified in the best way.
A Private Final Dance
As the afternoon eased toward evening, Audrey and Jack slipped away for one last quiet moment. They chose to have a final dance to “Hold My Girl” by George Ezra inside the greenhouse where their ceremony had taken place. There was something poetic about this full circle moment. The greenhouse that had held their vows now held their last dance of the day.
It was just the two of them in the space as the song played softly. We photographed from a distance, giving them privacy while still capturing the sentiment of the moment. The gentle sway, the forehead touches, the way Jack held Audrey close. It was intimate and sincere and incredibly beautiful.
A Bubble Send Off to End the Day
To close out their celebration, Audrey and Jack exited the greenhouse through a tunnel of bubbles. Bubble send offs always have a certain magic to them, especially when the light catches floating bubbles just right. Their guests cheered them on with joyful energy that matched the spirit of the entire day.
It was the perfect closing chapter to a Richmond wedding filled with love, ease, and intention.
Final Thoughts
Audrey and Jack’s Avonlea Farms wedding reminded us of the power of choosing experiences that feel true to your relationship. With its greenhouse ceremony, meaningful dances, signature cocktails, and a final bubble send off, their microwedding embodied everything that makes Central Virginia weddings so special.
We feel grateful to have witnessed it all and even more grateful to have been the ones to document it.
WAnt to see more of their love story?
Audrey and Jack’s Culpeper engagement session at Yowell Meadow Park was filled with golden hour light, soft colors, and natural joy. We wandered through meadows, explored the creek, and ended the session with sweet photos on a wooden swing. Their relaxed energy and loving connection made every moment effortless and heartfelt. The swing became an unexpected theme, since their wedding day featured one too, creating a charming full circle from engagement to “I do.” It was the perfect preview of the warmth and authenticity they brought to their Avonlea Farms celebration.
